Session Style & Scheduling Guide

A quick guide to choosing the perfect season, time, and vibe for your session.

Your images will reflect the season you choose — so it’s important to pick the one that feels most like “you.”

Scroll through my portfolio and notice which sessions you naturally love. That’s usually the best indicator of your true style.

01. Choose Your Season

Every season brings its own mood, color palette, and personality.

Spend a moment looking through images you’re drawn to — this is the easiest way to figure out what feels like you.

Spring

Soft greens, florals, breezy air, and a clean, airy look.

Great if you love pastels, fresh light, and gentle warmth.

Summer

Golden fields, warm skin tones, and those dreamy late sunsets.

Perfect for sun-soaked images with a glowy, romantic feel.

Fall

Warm tones, cozy vibes, and rich color everywhere.

Ideal if you love texture, movement, and deeper, earthy tones.

02. Pick Your Month

Once you know your season, choosing the month helps set expectations with lighting, weather, and overall look.

I recommend browsing past galleries on my site — notice which months you naturally bookmark or screenshot.

03. Time of Day

Lighting sets the entire tone of your session — and golden hour is the most flattering, dreamy light you can get.

Golden Hour (my favorite)

I typically start right before golden hour so we get soft, even light → then finish in the warm glow as the sun sets.

Midday

Bright, bold, more contrast. Works well for studio, branding, or shaded locations.

Morning Light

Fresh, clean, and calm. Amazing for babies or early risers.

04. Weather + Flexibility

Weather can add magic — but it’s important to decide your comfort level ahead of time.

Clear skies → clean, bright images

Cloudy → soft, moody, beautifully even light

Light rain → romantic, intimate, creatively stunning

Stormy → reschedulable for safety/light

Ask yourself: Am I okay with light rain? Do I want sun no matter what? Or do I love a cozy, moody vibe?

05. What Vibe Are You Going For?

Think of your gallery as a story. What feeling do you want your images to carry?

  • Warm + golden
  • Clean + minimal
  • Moody + atmospheric
  • Fun + playful
  • Soft + romantic
  • Earthy + natural
  • Bright + airy

06. Choosing Your Date

With your season, month, weather preferences, and vibe in mind, you’re ready to choose your session date.

Once you submit your preferred date, I’ll confirm availability and finalize everything for you.

Please keep in mind that winter, fall, and holiday months tend to fill up well in advance. Shorter daylight hours in winter and the high demand of fall wedding season mean my calendar books quickly and regular sessions are typically scheduled on weekdays or Sundays during those months.

If you have a specific date, season, or overall look you’re dreaming of, booking early ensures you get the exact timing, light, and vibe you want for your session.

FAQ

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes!

I know some sessions are a bigger investment, so payment plans are available for certain packages. Just let me know at booking and we’ll create something that works for you.

What should we wear?

I’ve created a full What to Wear Guide to make choosing outfits so much easier.

I recommend warm neutrals, simple textures, and pieces you feel confident in. Avoid neons and big logos — they distract from your faces and the emotion.

If you’re unsure, you can send me your outfit options and I’ll help you choose what photographs best.

Do you travel?

Yes! I photograph sessions throughout Tennessee, and I’m available for travel outside my local area as well.

Travel fees vary depending on distance, but I’ll walk you through everything before booking so there are no surprises.

What if my kids don’t cooperate?

Please don’t stress — kids are unpredictable, and that’s completely normal.

I keep sessions fun, relaxed, and full of movement to keep little ones engaged.

We take breaks, follow their lead, and I use prompts that bring out natural smiles rather than forced poses.

Some of the best photos come from imperfect moments.

How long does it take to receive the final edited photos?

I understand the anticipation of seeing your final photos. My editing process typically takes 1-2 weeks unless it is during peak times than could be up to 6 weeks. Wedding galleries could take up to 12 weeks during peak times.

What if it rains?

Your session shouldn’t feel stressful — especially because of weather.

If it’s a light sprinkle and you’re comfortable, we can still shoot and create something magical. If the weather is truly bad (rain, storms, heavy wind), we will reschedule at no extra cost.

I always keep a few backup dates available specifically for weather changes, so you never have to worry.

Can we bring pets?

Yes, absolutely — pets are always welcome!

They’re part of your family, and they add so much personality to your photos. If you plan to bring a pet, just let me know so I can help choose a pet-friendly location and prepare a few extra prompts to include them.

How does rescheduling work?

Life happens — weather, illness, and emergencies are all understandable.

If you need to reschedule, just let me know as soon as possible.

There’s no fee for weather-related rescheduling.

We will choose the next available date that works for both of us.

What time of day do you shoot?

Golden hour (right before sunset) is the most flattering and dreamy light — it’s when I shoot most outdoor sessions.

Indoor or studio sessions have more flexibility.

If you prefer a specific time of day, just let me know and I’ll help recommend what works best for the look you want.

Do you retouch images?

Yes — every delivered image includes natural, professional retouching.

This means smoothing without blurring, brightening without over-editing, and making sure you look like YOU at your best.

For boudoir sessions, extra beauty retouching is included.

Can we bring props?

Of course!

Small props like blankets, hats, flowers, sports items, sentimental pieces, or ideas related to your hobbies can add so much personality to your session.

If you’re not sure what to bring, I’ll help guide you so nothing feels cheesy or distracting.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Retainers are non-refundable because they secure your date and time.

If you need to fully cancel, you may transfer your retainer to a later session within the same calendar year.

Can we choose the location for our photo shoot?

Absolutely! We believe that the location plays a significant role in capturing unique and personalized photographs. Whether it's at your home, a scenic outdoor location, or a venue of your choice, I am open to capturing your portraits in a place that holds meaning to you.

Can we add more time to our session?

Yes!

Extended time is available if you’d like more outfit changes, multiple locations, or a more relaxed pace.

Just let me know before your session so I can plan accordingly.
